Your trusted guide through life’s storms. Working from experience helps us to understand better
Welcome I'm Brendan, therapist and founder of People on Board
I know how overwhelming life’s waters can feel because I’ve navigated them myself. My own journey with mental health challenges and trauma has shaped the way I work: grounded, human, and practical. Clients tell me they value my calm presence, clear explanations, and the way I make difficult things feel manageable.
Professionally, I’m fully qualified and highly experienced in NICE Guidelines evidence‑based therapies, including Integrative Counselling incorporating Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). In our sessions, we’ll work collaboratively mapping what’s going on, understanding why it makes sense, and building skills that bring relief and momentum. I’m attentive to safety and pacing; we go step by step, with steady check‑ins, so you feel supported and in control.

Whether you’re facing anxiety, low mood, anxiety or trauma‑related difficulties, burnout, or the feeling of being stuck, my role is to be a trusted guide at your side not to steer for you, but to help you find your bearings and move forward with confidence. If you’re ready to begin, I’m here to help you take the next right step.
CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling
What it is: Awarded by the Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), this qualification trains counsellors to work with a range of therapeutic models rather than just one approach.
What it means for you: I can draw from different evidence-based methods—such as person-centred, psychodynamic, and CBT—tailoring therapy to your unique needs rather than using a “one-size-fits-all” approach. This flexibility ensures sessions feel personal and effective.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – University of Chester
What it is: A rigorous, advanced-level qualification accredited for NHS Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services. It focuses on delivering structured CBT for complex anxiety disorders, depression, and trauma.
What it means for you: You’ll receive therapy grounded in the latest research and clinical standards. CBT is practical and goal-focused, helping you understand patterns and develop tools to manage symptoms effectively. My training ensures I can work safely and confidently with severe or long-standing difficulties.
Why these matter
Both qualifications meet professional standards for ethical practice and clinical competence.
They allow me to combine integrative flexibility with structured CBT expertise, so therapy can adapt to your goals—whether you need gentle exploration, practical coping strategies, or trauma-informed care.
Make sense of what’s happening using collaborative, down‑to‑earth conversations and simple maps of patterns (thoughts, emotions, body responses, behaviours).
Teach proven skills from CBT and trauma‑informed approaches—grounding, emotion regulation, compassionate thinking, exposure plans, sleep and stress tools.
Work step by step so you leave each session knowing what we did, why it matters and what to practice next.
Keep it personalised no one‑size‑fits‑all programmes; we design a plan that fits your life, values and nervous system.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help. You can also call me on 07543 837 557 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first.
I work from private offices located in Warrington, and see clients from surrounding areas such as Wigan, St Helens, and Liverpool. I will provide location details when we arrange our counselling sessions.
In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer online sessions via Zoom and Microsoft Teams for clients further afield. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.
